Qajar-period Qalamdan pen-box in papier-mâché, circa the 19th century in the Near East, 27.5 cm long, in excellent condition with provenance from a private UK collection and a Christie’s SK London 2008 publication.
Description from the seller
The lid decorated with interior scene of seated loving couple surrounded by musicians and courtesans, the sides with the same couple with procession of gift bearers on one side and mules carrying silk presents.
Size: 27.5 cm L - 10 13/16 inches
Material: Papier mache
Culture: Near East, c. 19th Century A.D.
Condition: Slight scratches in some areas, otherwise complete and intact.
Provenance: Private UK collection, published Christie’s SK London, October 2008.
