Pair of bronze pricket candlesticks from my private collection.

Overall the condition of the candlesticks is very good with light soiling and wear commensurate with age, including black wax. There are a pair of rectangular and round plugs on both drip trays.

Total weight for 2 candlesticks is 11,4kg and dimensions are H74 x W21 x D21 cm

Bronze pricket candlesticks from the 1700s (18th century) are fascinating artifacts that blend utility with artistry. The design and finish of the candlesticks are a very beautiful piece of art.

Pricket candlesticks are among the earliest forms of candle holders, featuring a spike (pricket) to hold the candle before sockets became standard.

By the 18th century, these candlesticks evolved from purely functional items into decorative objects, often used in churches, wealthy homes, and ceremonial settings.

Baroque and Rococo styles were dominant in the 1700s.
Baroque: Bold, symmetrical, and dramatic with heavy ornamentation.

Flemish and Italian origins were common, with regional variations in base design and decorative motifs.
