Description from the seller
Jan Altink (Dutch, 1885–1971) : Landscape (1928), watercolor on paper.
An expressive work by one of the founding members of "De Ploeg", in influential group of artists from Groningen. The composition is characterized by fluid, layered brushstrokes and a restrained yet powerful palette of blues, greens, and earthy tones, focusing on atmosphere rather than literal representation. The work is signed lower right.
The Groninger Museum holds a significant collection of works by Jan Altink, especially from his period the expressionist group De Ploeg. The museum collects his landscapes and figure scenes that reflect the northern Dutch countryside and the modernist spirit of the 1920s.
Dimensions: size 42 × 50 cm; professionally framed by Monart in 's-Hertogenbosch
This is a unique work and not part of an edition.
The watercolor originates from a Dutch private collection. No additional documentation is present, lineage can be explained. Condition is good with minor, age-related signs consistent with works on paper, such as light toning; no restorations noted.
An appealing example of early 20th-century Dutch expressionism and a strong representative work by Jan Altink.
