Roger de Valerio (real name Roger Laviron) (Lille, 1886 – Paris, 1951) was a French illustrator, designer, and artist known primarily for his posters and sheet music covers.
Roger de Valerio studied architecture at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. From 1911 to 1914, he worked as artistic director at the newspaper Le Matin. From 1917 to 1924, he was employed by the music publisher Salabert, for whom he produced more than 2000 (!) sheet music arrangements. In 1926, he was the artistic advisor for the Parisian printer Devambez, for whom he produced a number of beautiful full-color posters, and in 1932, he became the head of the newspaper Le Rire.
Arguably one of the most famous singers of the 1950s, French-born entertainer Maurice Chevalier certainly knew how to steal the show. Known as the inventor of the 'One Man Show,' Chevalier was a master of the stage. Chevalier was not just a singer, but an actor and entertainer to boot. Name any instrument, song, or dance... and Chevalier knew how to deliver.
In this gorgeous die-cut, gold-hue window card, Chevalier is showcasing his very own brand of cherry liqueur. How divine! Fantastic artwork by Roger de Valerio. Printed by Devambez, Paris. This little work of art is the perfect pop of yellow for your favorite wall. (Source: Authentic Vintage Posters, USA)
Condition: Very good. Minor border wear. Bright colors as issued.
