Description from the seller

The manual coffee grinder, like the one in the image, has a history that dates back centuries, originating from the need to grind coffee beans after its introduction to Europe in the 16th century.
Historical evolution
Initially, simple mortars and pestles were used, but the arrival of coffee in Europe required more specific tools. The first grinders were often made of wood, with metal grinding mechanisms, and their design evolved over time.
Their use became common in homes for preparing fresh coffee every day, before the advent of electric machines. Grinders with a wooden base and cast iron top like this were very popular between the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
In Italy, historic brands like 'Tre Spade' (Fratelli Bertoldo), founded in 1894, produced these sturdy coffee grinders, often characterized by their iconic logo.
The operation has remained largely unchanged: the grains are inserted into the upper container, and by turning the handle, the grinding stones are activated to pulverize them, collecting the ground coffee in the tray below. It is possible to adjust the fineness of the grind by modifying the internal mechanism.
