Description from the seller
Old box with straw marquetry – 19th century – with case
Description
Important rectangular box in straw marquetry, dating from the 19th century (circa 1840–1880), made on a wooden structure.
The lid is decorated with a central panel featuring a floral motif, depicting a flower basket, framed by an octagonal medallion and finely crafted geometric friezes.
The piece showcases meticulous craftsmanship, typical of the French and European straw marquetry tradition.
The box is accompanied by a small antique straw marquetry case, decorated with geometric motifs, displaying a stylistic coherence with the large box. This type of pairing is common for sewing sets or small necessities from the 19th century.
