Acheulean paleolith, a sturdy protobiface made of quartzite with a reserved base dating to about 800,000 BP, measuring 106 × 82 mm, from Seguiet el Hamra, Western Sahara; in excellent condition, acquired from a private collection in Belgium in 2000, no restorations, comes with an authenticity certificate.
Description from the seller
Ancient proto-biface with a reserved base from the early Acheulean, a typical tool of H. Erectus who lived at that time. These tools are considered transitional pieces between the earlier choppers/chopping tools and the fully worked hand axes. Characteristic is the retention of a large part of the cortex, with the aim of achieving a pointed shape with minimal flaking. These proto-bifaces are not commonly found in large assemblages. Made from quartzite. Originating from the Western Sahara, Seguiet el Hamra.
Few to no signs of use and in excellent condition. See photos.
