Description from the seller
Antique brass badge with a blackened wood handle – 19th century
Handle cachet made of blackened wood, equipped with a brass matrix engraved with a complex monogram, likely used for religious or internal administrative purposes.
The handle, in the shape of a flattened drop, is typical of 19th-century productions.
The brass is patinated, without excessive wear to the engraving: the pattern is still clear.
Matrix:
Engraving in a four-lobed medallion.
Lecture: 'CssR / Coll. Br.' with lower monogram (probably the initials of the holder or an officer of the college).
Plausible interpretation: an abbreviation related to a congregation or a religious college, possibly Congregatio Sanctissimi Redemptoris (Redemptorists) or a college bearing this name — without absolute certainty, but stylistically consistent with ecclesiastical usage from the 19th century.
Dimensions: Total height: 11 cm - Matrix diameter: 3 cm
Condition: Good overall condition. Wear from use on the handle (small chips of varnish). Clear engraving, not dulled. Homogeneous patina.
Provenance: Private collection.
Photos are an integral part of the description of the objects and complement their presentation. They allow you to assess their condition and characteristics. Please examine them carefully before any commitment.
The item will be carefully packaged and shipped with a tracking number to ensure fast and secure delivery.
