Anyone viewing Simon Balyon's work might think they are looking at the work of a painter from the late 19th century. Willem Roelofs and Jacob Maris are the artists who inspired Simon to create this technically challenging work.
Simon Balyon was born in 1965 in The Hague, where he also spent his youth. He is often found at the beach or at the fishing port of Scheveningen. It is therefore no surprise that many of Simon's subjects are inspired by the sea.
After working as a carpenter for several years, he realized that he did not want to pursue this profession for his entire life, and he resigned. He liked the smell of oil paint and reported to his older brother Nanne Balyon, who taught him the basics of the painting craft. After some years of commercial work, he came under the tutelage of Hans van Moerkerken, one of Holland's best landscape painters.
There is a growing interest in his work, which is sold not only in the Netherlands but also in major galleries in Belgium, Germany, and the USA.
