⸻
Description
Very elegant set of two antique decorative boxes from the second half of the 19th century, illustrating the refinement of bourgeois decorative arts.
The large box, made of amber-tinted blown glass, is richly decorated with a raised, polychrome enamel design depicting garlands of leaves dotted with small, hand-applied colored beads.
The lid is decorated with a hand-painted miniature depicting a romantic architectural landscape with a castle, medieval tower, and characters, in a soft and nuanced palette.
The piece is based on an original brass mount, with a front clasp and tripod feet with scrolls, typical of the period.
The small box, also made of amber glass, features a domed lid engraved with a wheel depicting a stylized floral pattern, accented with enamel dots. It is rimmed with brass, equipped with side rings, and rests on small decorative feet.
These pieces were intended to adorn display cases, dressing tables, or curiosity cabinets, serving as jewelry boxes, keepsake boxes, or collections of objects.
