Description from the seller
French Chalice with Paten in Original Box – Napoleonic Era, Early 19th Century
Authentic French chalice from the Napoleonic era (early 19th century), preserved in its original fitted transport box and accompanied by its matching paten. The piece reflects the restrained yet elegant liturgical style characteristic of the post-Revolutionary period.
Total silver weight (cup + paten): approx. 235 grams
Minerva head: 950/1000 silver purity
Chalice stem and foot: silvered metal
The chalice presents a classical baluster stem and a wide circular foot, decorated with engraved vegetal and foliate motifs typical of early 19th-century ecclesiastical silver. The proportions are elegant and well balanced, emphasizing function and sobriety.
The silvering on the stem and foot shows visible wear and fading, consistent with age and prolonged liturgical use. A new silver bath is recommended should a uniform appearance be desired; however, the piece remains structurally sound and historically intact.
The paten, engraved with a central cross framed by floral ornamentation, complements the chalice in both style and period.
Condition:
Structurally excellent. No breaks or losses. Wear to silvered areas as noted, recomended to do a silver bath of the body. .
A rare and historically significant Napoleonic-era liturgical set, complete with its original box — increasingly difficult to find.
Professionally packed and shipped with utmost care.
