Description from the seller

This is an eclectic piece of 19th-century historicist pastiche, mixing the form of an 18th-century bureau in chip carved oak, combining Jacobean and French late Renaissance motifs.

It is presumably related to the medieval theologian philosopher Duns Scotus.

The secretaire is British and dates circa 1840-1880.
