This lot features a set of four historical banknotes issued by the Russian Provisional Government in 1917, a pivotal year in world history between the February Revolution and the Bolshevik October Revolution. These notes are famously known as "Duma Money" due to the depiction of the Tauride Palace.
Lot Details:
2x 250 Rubles (1917):
Features: These notes are notable for the "Bicephalous Eagle" (Double-headed eagle) without the Tsarist regalia, designed by the artist Ivan Bilibin. Interestingly, the background features a swastika (solstice symbol), which at that time was used by the Provisional Government as a symbol of eternity and well-being.
2x 1000 Rubles (1917):
Features: Known as the "State Duma" note. The reverse side features a detailed engraving of the Tauride Palace in Saint Petersburg, the meeting place of the first Russian State Duma.
