Cristian Mesa Velázquez presents Anatomía del Deseo Interior, a 2025 oil-on-canvas work in Realismo, 58 x 90 cm, original edition, hand-signed, produced in España and sold directly by the artist.
Description from the seller
In this oil on canvas work, Cuban artist Cristian Mesa Velázquez presents a direct and uncompromising exploration of the male body as a symbolic territory. The figure, rendered in a powerful grayscale palette, is sharply outlined against an absolute red background, a chromatic field that functions not merely as contrast but as an emotional state: pulsation, tension, and contained energy.
The pose — with arms raised and torso exposed — alludes to an ambiguous blend of abandonment and control, vulnerability and assertion. Mesa Velázquez demonstrates a solid mastery of anatomy, not from cold academic virtuosity, but from a sculptural sensitivity, where each muscle seems to breathe and carry meaning. The body is not offered as an object but as presence: a living architecture pierced by desire, introspection, and inner strength.
The red background, flat and deliberately unnatural, strips the scene of any narrative anecdote to focus all attention on the corporeality and its symbolic charge. This choice places the work in a contemporary context, where the classical figure dialogues with a modern sensibility that is direct and emotionally honest.
From a curatorial perspective, this piece presents itself as a work of strong visual and conceptual impact, ideal for collectors seeking figurative art with character, capable of maintaining a dominant presence in any space and of fostering an intimate and prolonged relationship with the viewer.
Certificates of authenticity will be sent along with the artwork only in sales exceeding 500 euros.
Acquiring this painting means adding to the collection a work that is not merely to be contemplated but also to challenge: a body that does not pose but asserts itself, transforming the private space of the home into a place of intensity, reflection, and visual power.
