Bronze Celtic talisman dating to the 5th–4th centuries BC, measuring 23 x 12 mm and weighing 1.66 g, in excellent condition, acquired in 2004 in Vienna from a private collection, originally from Northern Europe, with a modern cord.
Description from the seller
This Celtic amulet with religious or magical powers, intended to protect, heal, or harm the people it is made for, symbolizes the chimney with burning coal.
Talisman have been used in many civilizations throughout history, with connections to astrological, scientific, and religious practices, personal protection for the user, their loved ones, or their belongings, helping with fertility, and aiding in crop production.
Interpretation: This amulet consists of three parts. The symbol of burning coal is represented at the top. On Samhain day, the Celts finished their harvest. On this occasion, a bonfire was lit on the highest hill to celebrate. Part of the harvest was sacrificed to the gods as thanks. The charcoal from this fire was the strongest protective charm. The Celts used charcoal from the Samhain home in their place of origin. Therefore, it protected the entire family. The circle in the middle is a symbol of eternity. Below is a symbolic image of the home. The amulet symbolizes the owner's and their family's eternal protection.
