Specimen: Matroschka Puppe, a 12‑piece set of hand‑carved and hand‑painted wooden nesting figures from Russia in folk art style, with large figure about 15 cm high and smallest pieces a few centimetres, showing brown, red, black and green tones and a strong patina and wear consistent with early 20th‑century craftsmanship.

AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Set of interlocking wooden figures, Matroschka.

Eastern Europe / Russia – early 20th century (ca. 1900–1930)

Offered is a set of handcrafted, interlocking wooden figures in traditional craftsmanship, consisting of a large figure and several smaller, precisely fitted interior figures.

The figures are made of turned wood and hand-painted. The painting features typical folklore motifs and color tones (brown, red, black, and green). The craftsmanship, irregular painting, and visible patina indicate early, handcrafted work rather than modern mass production.

The large figure measures approximately 15–16 cm in height (see measurement images). The smallest figures are only a few centimeters tall. All parts can be opened and reassembled.

state

Age- and use-related heavy patina, abrasion of the paint layers, minor color losses, wood aging, and signs of use on edges and standing surfaces.
No modern restorations are detectable. The condition is authentic and original, appropriate for the age.

classification

Such figures were originally made as folk art and toys, but also as decorative objects. Earlier examples with clearly visible craftsmanship and old paintwork are now especially sought after by collectors of Eastern European folk art.

Please carefully examine all images, as they are part of the description.
The item is carefully packaged and shipped with insurance and tracking number.
