Antique photo holder in mercury-gilded bronze – France, late 18th century – Swan decor

Description

Antique photo frame in gilded bronze with mercury gilding, of French manufacture, dating from the late 18th century.

The frame is topped with a splendid pediment adorned with two facing swans framing an antique vase, emblematic of neoclassical taste. The frame features intricate carving of leafy friezes and pearls, executed with great finesse.

The back features a hand-cut articulated foot, of original craftsmanship. The interior retains its embossed fabric, adding a touch of extra charm.

The mercury gilding, matte and warm, is perfectly consistent with the period and has not been repolished.
