Throughout history, the most important lapis lazuli deposits have been located in the Badakhshan region of Afghanistan, where this stone has been mined for over 6,000 years. Lapis lazuli originating from Afghanistan is regarded as the highest quality, renowned for its deep, intense blue tones and rich distribution of pyrite. The stone was considered sacred by the Pharaohs and was used in jewelry and funerary objects, such as Tutankhamun’s burial mask. It also appeared on royal seals and religious artifacts.
