砂痕 (Sakon) - Japanese for traces in sand - is a large, meditative abstract painting that suggests a landscape reduced to its most essential tones. A deep, warm band runs horizontally across the centre of the canvas, held between lighter ochre fields above and below. The image remains deliberately ambiguous: it can be read as a distant horizon, a strip of shadow on a sunlit plain, or simply as a slow vibration of earth colours.

The work is built through many diluted layers of yellow ochre and raw sienna, allowing the pigments to sink into the weave of the canvas rather than form a heavy surface. Soft transitions, faint shifts in value and tiny irregularities remain visible, like marks left by wind across sand. These subtle imperfections embody a wabi-sabi sensibility - an appreciation for quiet asymmetry, weathered colour and the passage of time.

From afar, 砂痕 appears almost minimal and monochrome; up close it reveals fine granular texture and delicate gradations that invite slow, attentive looking. The calm horizontal structure gives the piece a grounded, architectural presence while leaving ample space for the viewer’s own associations and memories.
