The leaders of the Yaka community possess a number of objects that are part of their royal collection. One of these objects is the ceremonial cup called kopa (also known as koopa or mbassa; also used by the Suku), carved from a single piece of wood with two leaf-shaped openings connected by a central ridge. Presented to each new leader during their initiation, kopa cups are traditionally used to drink palm wine during ritual ceremonies to demonstrate authority and power. During a leader's reign, no one else is allowed to touch the kopa without the leader's permission. Upon the leader's death, the kopa is passed on to their successor, who must recite the names of the previous owners of the cup.
