1925. Sory Keita belongs to the Susu tribe, a subgroup of the Baga people from Conkary, Guinea (West Africa). The serpent represents a protective spirit known to the Baga as Ninki Nanka, revered for bringing rain, wealth, and motherhood to sterile women. These Baga snakes are also used during initiation ceremonies. This serpent is carved from a single piece of wood with sinuous curves ending in a head.
