Description from the seller
In the Silence of Proximity, Nan Laar captures a moment where touch is not a gesture but a state. Two figures are close to each other, so close that words become unnecessary. The female figure closes her eyes, her face open and receptive, while the presence of the other is felt in the intimacy of the moment.
Flowers and tender branches cross the image and seem to float between figures and background. They do not serve as decoration but as an extension of the feeling: fragile, alive, and temporary. The background remains light and breathable, allowing the image to have space and not become overwhelmed by meaning.
Nan Laar works with expressive, visible brushstrokes and transparent layers that balance between figuration and looseness. The color palette, soft skin tones, warm pink accents, and muted earth colors, enhances the sensory and emotional impact of the work.
The painting explores closeness without possession, intimacy without drama.
In the Silence of Proximity, the viewer is invited to slow down and feel what happens when two people meet without trying to hold on to anything.
A layered, poetic work that fits within the emotionally refined and recognizable oeuvre of Nan Laar.
