Description from the seller
Antique Swiss Pocket Watch – Système Roskopf – Silver 0.800 – No. 37837 – Late 19th Century / Early 20th Century
Original Swiss pocket watch equipped with the Système Roskopf history, a fundamental system in European watchmaking history due to its mechanical robustness and mass production at the end of the 19th century.
The dial features Roman numerals, small seconds at 6 o'clock, and the inscription 'Système Roskopf Patent,' characteristic of pieces produced approximately between 1890 and 1910.
The manual winding mechanical movement is complete and functional, operating at the time of description. The Roskopf system is recognized for its simple and reliable architecture, and is particularly appreciated by collectors of technical and historical watchmaking.
The box is made of solid silver 0.800, properly tested, with an additional internal lid also in silver, bearing the manufacturer's mark. Inside the box, there is the number 37837, likely a box or production number, consistent with practices of the period. The external lid is decorated with the inscription “Système Roskopf” and characteristic graphic motifs of the period. It comes with an old chain in silver-colored metal.
Condition of preservation
The watch shows signs of considerable wear, consistent with over a century of use.
Severe wear of the case, with deep scratches, signs of use, and evident patina.
Counter with natural aging
• Crown, ring and chain with visible wear
• Absence of apparent modern cosmetic restorations
Despite the pronounced aesthetic wear, the piece maintains a high level of historical integrity, a factor valued by collectors who prioritize authenticity and originality.
