Description from the seller

Serge Jacques was a French photographer active mainly in the 1950s and 1960s. He is best known for his work in charm and female nude photography, a genre that was still highly regulated and often censored in post-war France. His images, elegant and daring for their time, were published in several illustrated magazines and glamour reviews, helping to popularize an aesthetic that was both sensual and inspired by Hollywood glamour as well as humanist photography.
Beyond erotic photography, Serge Jacques was also interested in the Parisian cultural scene, particularly jazz. He photographed musicians, clubs, and nighttime atmospheres, bearing witness to the artistic vitality of 1950s Paris. This dual perspective, both intimate and documentary, gives his work a richness that is often little known.
Long overlooked in the official history of photography, his work was rediscovered and reevaluated starting in the 2000s, notably through publications and reissues of his images. Today, Serge Jacques is recognized as an important figure in French glamour photography of the 20th century, whose work reflects the evolving morals and the increasing freedom of visual expression of his time.
