The hare mask (or dyommo) is one of the varieties of the dogon mask, worn in Mali during ceremonies.
Made of wood, small and lightweight, the hare mask is worn by young boys during an initiation dance depicting the confrontation between the hunter and his prey, the hare, an agile and cunning animal. Like others, this mask also holds hidden meanings: it is believed to have therapeutic virtues in cases of epilepsy.
