A single circular French jewellery casket from 1800–1850, made of powder-blue velvet, in antique Rococo style with a gilded bronze mount, glass domed lid, and gilded bronze feet, measuring 13.4 × 8 × 15.5 cm with a pink-silk interior, and in used condition with minor age-related marks and stains.
Description from the seller
This refined jewelry box, a splendid example of 19th-century French decorative taste, embodies the elegance and sophistication typical of the era. The piece features a circular structure entirely covered in a precious dust-blue silk velvet, whose texture, despite the signs of time, still retains a softness and luster characteristic of luxury craftsmanship.
The lid is adorned with a convex frosted glass, which originally allowed the display of precious contents while protecting them from dust. The frame is made of finely chased gilded bronze: a central band runs along the perimeter, perforated with a delicate pattern of vegetal scrolls, flowers, and small buds, reflecting the craftsmanship of 18th-century bronze artisans.
Particular emphasis is given to the elements made of bronze: the lid is topped with a decorative closure in the shape of a flower and is finished with a lace border that follows its circumference. The box rests on elegant claw feet, also in gilded bronze, which connect to the main body with acanthus leaf decorations, giving the object a sense of lightness and stability.
The interior, lined in blush-colored silk, reveals a historic patina that highlights its use and centuries-old charm. This jewelry box is not just a container for valuables but a piece of decorative art capable of evoking the atmosphere of French aristocratic boudoirs, perfect for a discerning collector seeking pieces rich in history and rare beauty.
