Unique Berlin-made Art Deco seven-armed freestanding candlestick carved from solid wood (black-and-white ebony), circa 1925, in good condition with patina.
Description from the seller
Rare Art Deco chandelier, Berlin, around 1925 – unique piece
Exceptional seven-arm chandelier made of solid wood, crafted in Berlin around 1925, clearly stylistically associated with Art Deco. From a former Berlin villa. The strictly geometric yet dynamically curved design language reflects the artistic spirit of the 1920s and early 1930s: reduction, symmetry, and functional elegance. The wood resembles polar birch but is probably a rare tropical hardwood: so-called black and white ebony, likely a species of Diospyros.
The chandelier is designed as a freestanding object and rests on a clearly proportioned base. The seven evenly spaced openings at the top were originally intended for candles or electrical inserts. The organic grain of the wood, with its dark inclusions, gives the piece a lively surface and emphasizes its handcrafted character. It is a unique piece, likely produced in a Berlin art cabinetmaker's workshop during the interwar period. The craftsmanship demonstrates high artisanal quality and an extravagant design approach.
state
Good age-appropriate condition with authentic signs of use, patina, small tension cracks, and age-related surface features. No structural damage. The signs of time emphasize the originality and authenticity of the object.
Dating: circa 1925
Style: Art Deco
Origin: Berlin, Germany
Material: solid wood, probably tropical wood.
Seven-armed
Classification: sculptural chandelier / design object
Rarity: Unique piece
An exceptional collectible for enthusiasts of Art Déco, early modern design, and Berlin craftsmanship of the interwar period.
