From origin Surinamese, Indonesian, African, and Dutch origin, she grew up in the Netherlands. Growing up in beautiful Vermeer city - Delft, living in Rembrandt country the Netherlands, got in touch with Venice for an assignment for a perfume brand and was deeply touched by Venice baroque art, architecture and history. All these influences in her life, inspired her. Mariska began incorporating these inspirations into her own work, with influences from her life and existence. Inspired by Baroque, fantasy, and cultural iconography, her imagery is both timeless and deeply personal. She views femininity as a layered spectrum, from quiet harmony to strongly present. Mariska spends a lot of time carefully constructing her sets, which also involves her other talents. She sketches with charcoal, works with gold, textiles, and is an excellent photo manipulator. All of her talents come together in every piece of work she creates.
