Paleolithic Prehistoric Stone Core / Hammerstone (No reserve price)

Prehistoric Stone Core / Hammerstone Culture Prehistoric Dating Paleolithic – Early Neolithic (circa 100,000 – 4,000 BC) Description Prehistoric stone core or hammerstone made from compact siliceous rock, showing multiple impact scars and fracture planes consistent with repeated percussion. The object does not present regular retouching intended to create a cutting edge, but instead displays battered zones and irregular removals typical of a core used for flake extraction or a percussive tool (hammerstone) employed in prehistoric knapping activities. The morphology, mass, and surface wear suggest use in lithic production processes, such as the detachment of flakes or rough shaping of stone tools. Natural patination and mineral deposits are consistent with long burial and prehistoric context. Such cores and hammerstones represent essential elements of early technological chaînes opératoires and are increasingly appreciated as authentic witnesses of prehistoric daily activity. Condition Intact. No modern alterations or restorations. Surface wear, impact scars, and patina consistent with age and use. Dimensions Length: approx. 10 cm Provenance Private French collection, formed before 1970.
