Adrian Delano Dantley (Washington D.C., February 28, 1955) is a former American basketball player and coach. He won a gold medal with the American basketball team at the 1976 Summer Olympics.
Dantley played for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish college basketball team from 1973 to 1976. During the 1976 Olympic Games, he played six matches, including the final against Yugoslavia. In these games, he scored 116 points. He was selected sixth in the NBA Draft 1976 by the Buffalo Braves. After his first season, he was voted NBA Rookie of the Year and NBA All-Rookie Team.
In December 1977, he was traded along with Mike Bantom to the Indiana Pacers for Billy Knight. Two weeks later, he was traded again, this time with Dave Robisch to the Los Angeles Lakers for James Edwards and Earl Tatum. In September 1979, he was sent to the Utah Jazz for Spencer Haywood. He played seven seasons with Utah.
In August 1986, he was traded to the Detroit Pistons along with multiple draft picks for Kent Benson and Kelly Tripucka. In February 1989, he was traded again, this time to the Dallas Mavericks for Mark Aguirre. He later played for the Milwaukee Bucks.
In 2008, he was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame. After his playing career, he served as an assistant coach for eight seasons with the Denver Nuggets from 2003 to 2011, having previously been an assistant coach for the Towson Tigers in college basketball during the 1990s.
