Description from the seller
Very rare combination
Very beautiful ticket from the 1900 Olympic Games in Paris, France. Includes holder and postcard. In an episode of Pawn Stars, a single ticket was sold for 120 dollars (photos 4 and 5). A wonderful collector's item.
The Olympic Games were held in Paris, France, in 1900 during the world's fair. Accompanying this lot is also an original, beautiful postcard from that Olympic year, 1900, featuring the Eiffel Tower and some buildings from the world's fair along the Seine River.
The connection to the world exhibition was actually a financial necessity for the Olympic Games. Pierre de Coubertin had originally relied on subsidies from the French government and the financial sector, but both entities did not come up with the necessary funds. Therefore, De Coubertin had no choice but to link the Olympic Games to the organization of that year's world exhibition.
The organization of the Games was therefore in the hands of the organizing committee of the world exhibition. However, that committee paid little attention to the sporting events, which had to be held in very poor facilities as a result. No Olympic stadium was built, and ultimately many Parisian sports clubs took over the organization of the various events. For example, the athletics competitions were held on the grass fields of the Racing Club de France, and the race events took place in a meadow.
Customs costs for shipments outside the EU are NOT included.
