Berkel professional mechanical countertop scale from Belgium, made of Bakelite with a stainless steel weighing platform, circa 1940–1950, in good used condition with minor signs of age and in working order.
Description from the seller
Rare Berkel shop scale – industrial design – from approximately the 1950s to 1960s
Description
Impressive and authentic Berkel professional shop scale, an iconic piece from the post-war period when Berkel was synonymous with precision, reliability, and timeless industrial design.
This concerns a mechanical Berkel counter scale with analog windows, made of white enameled metal with a stainless steel weighing platform. The characteristic multiple viewing windows, the heavy chassis, and the robust construction indicate a professional model that was used in butcher shops, delicatessens, and grocery stores.
The scale division (graduation per 10 g, maximum weight 5 kg) and the construction are typical of Berkel models from the 1950s to early 1960s, a period during which Berkel transitioned to refined mechanical precision weighing systems for commercial use. The machine has been tested, but we cannot guarantee that every aspect or accuracy still functions. We see this object solely as a display/model/interior piece for delicatessen shops, vintage shops, boutiques, or eateries.
A real eye-catcher with a historical appearance, ideal as:
decorative object
industrial design piece
collectible object
retail or hospitality establishment
Topic of conversation for guests
Such original Berkel scales are becoming increasingly rare on the market, especially in this complete and recognizable version.
