Cry me a river by Belle Doxx (2021), hand-signed acrylic painting, 30 × 24 cm, origin Netherlands, Expressionism, Original edition, sold directly by the artist, in excellent condition.
Description from the seller
This striking painting by Belle Doxx depicts an iconic, almost sacred figure with an expressive and emotionally charged face. The spiky crown around the head evokes associations with mythological and religious iconography, where suffering, power, and transcendence converge. The work deliberately balances between sacred iconography and contemporary emotion.
The tears, the blood-red color around the eyes, and the downward-turned mouth suggest pain, mourning, and inner struggle. The eyes once again serve as a central symbol: they refer to seeing and being seen, but also to vulnerability and moral tension. The cross-shaped mark on the body reinforces the reference to sacrifice, faith, and existential questions.
The bright orange of the background contrasts sharply with the dark body and creates an intense visual effect that immediately makes the work stand out. Belle Doxx's characteristic style, with bold lines, simplified forms, and a raw, almost primitive aesthetic, makes the piece both direct and layered.
In her body of work, Belle Doxx regularly combines mythological and religious motifs with contemporary emotions and social tensions. This unique, hand-signed painting is a pronounced statement piece and a valuable addition to a collection of contemporary symbolic art.
