Description from the seller
Napoleon III fireplace clock - 19th century.
French Napoleon III period mantel clock (circa 1860-1880), in gilded régule, richly decorated in the Rocaille/Louis XV style.
The clock features a figurative scene with two 18th-century style characters framing the dial.
On the left, a young woman in period dress; on the right, a gentleman in old-fashioned attire.
The decor is completed by a rocaille openwork pediment, a curved base adorned with a central female mask, and dynamic feet, typical of Second Empire decorative production.
Convex enamel dial, stylized black Arabic numerals, railway minute track, engraved floral central decoration, cut steel hands, Louis XV style.
A crack indicates the presence of a flaw and a lack of enamel around a winding hole, visible in the photos. This is an old defect, common on enamel dials from the 19th century.
French mechanical movement with key winding (key and balance included), duration of 8 days, with hour and half-hour striking on a bell.
Complete clock pendulum with a stable and well-assembled structure, the figures are intact, with regular wear on the raised areas (feet, edges, faces, folds of clothing) consistent with age.
Signs of wear and scratches, see the photos as they are part of the description.
