Description from the seller
This is a lithograph of a man skipping rope, made by the artist Benjamin Levy.
Dimensions: 55 x 65 cm
Dimensions with frame: 57 x 67 cm
Benjamin Levy was born in 1940 in Tel Aviv. He studied art in Israel with Abraham Yaskil, in Paris at the École de Montparnasse, and in New York at the Pratt Graphic Art Center. After his studies, he returned to Tel Aviv, where he established a studio. In 1965, the Levy family moved to New York, where he quickly gained success and recognition. Today, he lives and works alternately in New York, Tel Aviv, and in the artists' colony Ein Hod in Israel. Since the late 1960s, he has had more than eighty solo exhibitions and participated in over a hundred group exhibitions in Israel, the United States, and Europe. His work is included in many private and public collections worldwide.
Levy draws much of his inspiration from his collection of family photographs, many of which date from before his birth. The magic of these old images is reflected in the characteristic rigidity of his figures, the dreamlike quality of his paintings, and the theatrical staging of his portraits and scenes. Figures in full regalia are positioned as if being photographed, against a backdrop of curtains and wings. Communication occurs through gestures, glances, and symbols; unspoken messages are sometimes represented by a small winged messenger or a bird, symbolizing the human soul.
Viewing of the plot is always possible. All contact information can be found on our own website. Art Dumay has an in-house list-making workshop with nearly 100 years of experience. If you're interested, please contact us and we will be happy to assist you.
