Alexandre Petrus (1988) - DAVID

David Alexandre Petrus (AP) Hand-cut multi-layer stencil and spray paint Cotton canvas 61 x 46 x 2 cm 2026 Hand-signed on the back – “AP” monogram sprayed on the front Original work delivered with a signed certificate of authenticity Mint ABOUT THE ARTWORK This artwork revisits one of the most iconic masterpieces in art history: Michelangelo’s David. Rather than glorifying the victory, this interpretation focuses on the moment before action — a suspended instant where tension, concentration, and inner resolve converge. David is not portrayed as a triumphant hero, but as a figure of controlled power. His posture, gaze, and muscular tension suggest awareness rather than aggression. Strength here is silent, contained, and deliberate. The absence of Goliath reinforces the psychological dimension: the real battle is internal. The multi-layer stencil technique emphasizes anatomy through sharp contrasts and fragmented lines, echoing the sculptural precision of marble while introducing a contemporary, urban language. The figure emerges from a textured, mineral background, as if excavated from time itself. The green and stone-like tones reference antiquity, endurance, and permanence, while the stencil cuts introduce rupture, rhythm, and modern tension. This David exists between classical heritage and contemporary reinterpretation — timeless yet anchored in the present. This piece speaks of courage before action, self-mastery, and the quiet intensity that precedes decisive moments. ABOUT THE ARTIST I am a French stencil artist whose work bridges street art and contemporary fine art. My practice is based on contrast: instinctive, textured backgrounds combined with precise, hand-cut multi-layer stencils. I have exhibited alongside major figures of the urban art scene such as L’Atlas, C215, Carole B, Wawapod, and Jo Di Bona at the SPERA ART FAIR. My work has been collected across Europe, with more than 300 artworks sold internationally. Alongside studio work, I regularly create live painting performances for major brands and institutions, including Disneyland Paris. Each artwork is a unique original. While my stencils may be reused, every background is created spontaneously, ensuring that no two pieces are ever identical. My work explores iconic figures through tension, restraint, and emotional impact. SHIPPING The artwork will be carefully packed using professional, reinforced materials to ensure maximum protection during transport.
