Morocco, model Beni antique, a hand-knotted wool-on-wool Berber rug, 154 cm by 95 cm, dating from the mid-20th century (circa 1970), in good overall condition with signs of age and wear, professionally cleaned and supplied with a certificate of authenticity.
Description from the seller
Welcome to Passion d'Orient:
The origins of the Berber rug, its beginnings and the meaning of its motifs go back a long way. It does not descend from Oriental carpets of the Islamic era, but the similarity of the knotting technique and certain motifs indicates common roots, probably dating back to the Neolithic in Asia Minor. Apart from the great civilizations of Antiquity and far from the cultural exchanges of the Silk Road, the Berber rug has kept its originality in the mountainous regions of the Atlas and the Atlantic plains.
