Damião Vieira - Woman on Train

"Woman on Train" is one of the scenes I chose from the iconic "North by Northwest," a film by Alfred Hitchcock that has always fascinated me, in addition to the film's photographic aspect with its unique Technicolor. But beyond the film, and with the flaw of a person like me, who connects and is inspired by everything I see, the painting side... And also an eternal fondness for the theme linked to trains. In this case, I think it has a lot of another icon of painting, Edward Hopper; when I watch the film, it almost seems like I'm seeing his paintings in motion. I chose this work because it relates to Edward Hopper's work, the loneliness of the characters with distant gazes. I will return to the film, as there is no shortage of scenes to paint. It is always a greater reason that makes me continue painting. Damião Vieira - 2025 - Acrylic on loose canvas - 40x40cm Sending the artwork in the "Medium Packaging" size. I am shipping the work rolled in a cardboard tube for full protection. Signed and dated on the back Possible color variations are due to lighting, monitor, and camera. Some images are photomontages and are for illustrative purposes only. Certificate of Authenticity (COA) Damião Vieira Born in Gondomar in 1964. Attended the Dec. Soares dos Reis School of Arts. Works as a professional in the field of graphic arts. Began his career in painting in 1984. He was inspired and influenced by the renowned painter ‘Pinho’. For personal and professional reasons, he took a break from his artistic activity. He resumed painting in 1995 with the support of the painter ‘Armando Aguiar’, whom he considers not only a friend, but also an exceptional teacher and artist. Currently, his painting is more contemporary among other styles such as Pop Art, with great success. He has participated in individual and collective exhibitions, both nationally and internationally, and has won awards and been published. He has works in Portugal and abroad. He has collaborated with several galleries in the field of graphic design, and also as a curator, particularly at the Days Are Gallery. He started out in digital illustration and its publication on paper and textiles, with the IlustraPoster brand. "Damião Vieira is the kind of person who can be considered a laborer of the arts—that is, a true artist. Although self-taught, he has always had the privilege of being close to master painters, given his work as a graphic arts technician linked to the artistic world. He benefited from their best teachings, without having to submit to academic dogmatism. His artistic streak was evident from the day he was born in 1964, in Gondomar, in the Porto district. He attended the Soares dos Reis School of Decorative Arts, but life circumstances never allowed him to pursue higher education. From that time to the present, he has never stopped expressing himself artistically, exhibiting in a wide variety of places and situations, pursuing various styles and forms of expression. Only in more recent years, however, has he begun to give voice to his intuitions and natural creativity." Jose Carlos Soares Executive officer Galeria Cruzes Canhoto
