Monumental French ceiling lamp in patinated bronze with six alabaster bowls, Ø 100 cm, H 42 cm, ca. 1910–1935, Art Nouveau/Jugendstil, in working order with three alabaster bowls cracked and four snakes missing their tongues.
Description from the seller
Monumental French Art Nouveau / early Art Deco ceiling lamp in bronze and alabaster – Ø 100 cm
Description
Very impressive French ceiling lamp from the early 20th century, executed in heavily patinated cast bronze with six large alabaster bowls. Due to its generous size and sculptural design, this is a pronounced statement piece for a representative space such as a hall, foyer or drawing room.
The design dates from the transitional period between Art Nouveau and early Art Deco, combining a clean, symmetrical composition with organic natural motifs. Notably, the beautifully cast bronze snakes that bear the alabaster bowls — a rare and decorative detail that sets this lamp apart from standard fixtures.
The alabaster bowls are beautifully patterned and partly translucent, which creates a warm, atmospheric light diffusion. When illuminated, the natural character of the alabaster is particularly well highlighted.
Material
• Patinated cast bronze
• Albast (alabaster)
Dimensions
• Diameter: approx. 100 cm
• Height: approx. 42 cm
Period
Circa 1910–1935
Condition
Antique condition, appropriate for its age and use.
• Three alabaster shells display old fractures/cracks (stable).
• Four snakes are missing the tongue (minor decorative detail loss).
• Beautiful original patina on the bronze.
• Electrical wiring is older and may need to be inspected or replaced.
The lamp is complete and sturdy; all imperfections are visible in the photos and have been taken into account in the price.
