Prachtige 19e‑eeuwse Franse schouwklok‑garnituur, André – Chalon-sur‑Saône, ca. 1870–1890
De architectonische pendule is meesterlijk uitgevoerd in glanzend zwart marmer met contrasterende rood‑marmeren zijpanelen, versierd met fijngoud geschilderde guirlandes. Vier rijk geciseleerde verguld bronzen acanthus voetwerken ondersteunen de kast. Zijdelinge gedraaide handgrepen en een fraai getornd zwart- en roodmarmeren urn als bekroning voltooien het geheel.

De witte geëmailleerde wijzerplaat draagt elegante Arabische cijfers en een minuten ring. Het ornamentale centrum bevat een veelkleurig bloem‑/ster‑motief met goudaccenten en turkooisblauwe details – typisch voor de hoogtijdagen van Franse horlogerie in de Tweede Keizerrijk.

De wijzerplaat is gesigneerd “ANDRÉ” boven het centrum en “CHALON / s/SAÔNE” onderaan.
Beweging: Klassiek Frans 8‑daags veer‑uurwerk (tijd en slag), twee opwindgaten in de wijzerplaat (uurwerk niet volledig getest; service aanbevolen).
Garnituur: Compleet met twee originele bijpassende zijstukken – elk een urn‑vormige vaas in zwart en rood marmer met verguld bronzen handvatten, op zwartmarmeren sokkel met gouden schilderdecoratie en verguld bronzen poten.
Toestand: Goede gebruikte staat; normale slijtage en patina passend bij leeftijd; emaille wijzerplaat met minimale gebruikssporen; vergulding met warm, aantrekkelijk patina.

Fine 19th-Century French Black and Rouge Marble Mantel Clock Garniture, André – Chalon-sur-Saône, circa 1870–1890

This architectural mantel clock exemplifies the refined taste of the late Victorian era. Constructed in polished black marble with contrasting rouge marble side panels, the case is adorned with delicate gilt-painted swags and acanthus scrolls. Four finely cast gilt-bronze feet and ornamental side handles, surmounted by a turned black and red marble urn finial, complete the elegant composition.
The white enamel dial is decorated with graceful Arabic numerals, an outer minute ring, and finely pierced hands. The centre showcases a richly detailed polychrome floral/star motif with gilt highlighting and turquoise blue champlevé enamel – characteristic of the finest Second Empire French horological craftsmanship. The dial is signed “ANDRÉ” above the centre and “CHALON / s/SAÔNE” below.
Movement: Classic French 8-day spring-driven time-and-strike mechanism with twin winding apertures in the dial (untested; service recommended).
Garniture: Complete with two original matching side pieces – each an urn-shaped vessel in black and red marble with gilt-bronze foliate handles, raised on a black marble plinth with gilt-painted ornament and gilt-bronze feet.
Condition: Good antique condition with expected wear and patina appropriate to age. Enamel dial with minor signs of use. Gilding retains warm, attractive patina.
