Chair - Oak - Baroque carved chair
High-Quality Late 19th-Century Baroque Armchair – Solid
Carved oak chair in Neo-Baroque style, made in Northern Europe in the second half of the 19th century (circa 1860–1890).
The chair features a richly carved openwork backrest with scrolls and foliate motifs, combined with turned barley-twist legs and a solid oak seat. The construction is traditional, using mortise-and-tenon joints, with early slotted screws typical for 19th-century furniture making.
Visible hand-tool marks, slight asymmetries and construction details are consistent with period craftsmanship. The chair is entirely original and not assembled from later parts. The presence of early screws reflects period reinforcement rather than modern restoration.
Condition
Good antique condition, consistent with age and use.
Stable and solid
No active woodworm observed
Minor age-related wear, small surface marks and natural wood movement
No modern repairs
The chair retains an attractive, original patina.
Remarks
This is a genuine 19th-century historicist chair, not a later reproduction. Its decorative character makes it suitable both as a collector’s item and as an interior statement piece.
