Pair of wall‑mounted angular shelves in carved gold‑leaf wood, in antique Baroque style, dating to circa 1900–1910, with dimensions 21 cm high, 16.5 cm wide and 12 cm deep.
Description from the seller
Pair of carved and gilded wooden corner shelves — Baroque style — 19th century.
A fascinating pair of small wall shelves (or 'brancards'), entirely handmade from carved wood with a gold leaf finish (or gilding). The shelves feature a refined decoration in acanthus leaf motifs, typical of the ornamental repertoire of the late Baroque and Rococo.
The structure is characterized by a richly carved central upright that supports the shaped supporting surface. The carving work is vigorous and sculptural, with volutes that give dynamism and lightness to the whole. On the back there are the original (or antique) metal hooks for wall mounting.
These decorative elements were usually used to display small porcelain pieces, bronzes, or sacred art objects, completing the furnishings of noble salons or private chapels.
