Oil on canvas by E. Bouty, titled Le treport, from 1950–1960, France; signed, framed, and in acceptable condition.
Description from the seller
An interesting oil on canvas attributed to the French school, depicting a lively view of the port of Le Tréport, one of the most emblematic maritime enclaves of the Norman coast. The scene shows several vessels engaged in fishing in the foreground, with the port's urban fabric and the dominant church in the background, accurately capturing the relationship between architecture, human activity, and the maritime environment.
The work stands out for its solid compositional construction and its adept atmospheric treatment, with a loose yet effective brushstroke that suggests the movement of the water and port life. The palette, balanced and natural, blends bluish grays, earth tones, and ochres, achieving a convincing and luminous scene that is very much in the vein of French landscape and marine painting from the late 19th to early 20th centuries.
The work as a whole communicates a clearly descriptive and documentary character, without losing its pictorial sensitivity, placing itself within the French tradition of harbor views—so valued by collectors and lovers of European landscape painting.
The work is presented with a frame; the frame is in poor condition, so it is included only as protection or a gift, without attributing any monetary value to it, and the sale should be considered to focus exclusively on the painting.
An appealing piece due to its subject matter, recognizable setting, and classical character, ideal for collectors of French painting and maritime scenes.
Dimensions with frame: 51 x 43 cm
Dimensions without frame: 41x30 cm
