Description from the seller
Description of the original object.
Original manuscript in French, with influences from a variety of Occitan.
According to the manuscript, the date of September 3, 1603 or 1608 cannot be verified precisely.
The manuscript is rendered in ink by the notarial scribe, using a bird's feather quill, in a procedural Gothic script.
The manuscript is set in the region of southern France, in Provence.
The manuscript is in an unbound booklet, stitched through the sheets, and tied with a string.
The paper is handmade rag paper, likely linen, of high quality.
The original ferrogallic black ink from the period.
The deed is prepared by a single notary.
The manuscript is composed of 39 handwritten pages and 8 sheets, (we understand that these
blank pages, it would be for making corrections, or subsequent additions if the case arose).
Dimensions: in-4 (30 cm x 21 cm)
The condition is excellent, with no damage, intact, sound, and clean.
The document has a legal basis for judicial and procedural actions; it contains declarations, appearances, and records.
The document is very well drafted and provides a clear and extensive description of a matrimonial nullity, in which facts are described, reported, and brought to light, and properties are addressed; it condemns, an oath is sworn, and the parties are called upon to respond. The text contains legal Latin formulas.
The litigant families are of high lineage, with properties and lordships spread across the French Provence between the towns of Orange and Sault. Names such as Marguerite appear.
