Rare Danish teak wall sculpture in the form of a bird in flight by Poul Jeppesen (PJ Denmark), dating from ca. 1958–1968, carved from solid teak with an original back mounting hole.
Description from the seller
Rare Danish teak wall sculpture – Bird in Flight – PJ Poul Jeppesen – Mid-Century Modern (ca. 1960)
Danish design, teak wall sculpture, Poul Jeppesen, PJ Denmark, mid century modern, Scandinavian modern, teak wall art, Danish bird sculpture, vintage wall decor, 1960s design, organic modernism, Kay Bojesen style, Danish modern wood, wall mounted sculpture, collector design object
This elegant Danish teak wall sculpture in the shape of a bird in flight is a beautiful example of Scandinavian modernism from the 1950s–1960s. The piece bears the original PJ stamp "Made in Denmark" from Poul Jeppesen, a renowned Danish studio that produced high-quality teak wall objects for the international market.
The flowing lines, the long tail, and the minimalist silhouette give the image an almost graphic quality — typical of the heyday of Danish modernism, in which form and movement were central.
The sculpture is entirely made from solid old-growth teak, with a warm honey color and a fine grain. The piece is hand-carved and finished; on the back there is the original hanging hole, which confirms that it was specially designed as a wall piece.
Denmark, circa 1958–1968
Stamp: PJ – Made in Denmark
Similar PJ wall birds and Danish teak sculptures from this period are traded internationally in the price range:
