Description from the seller
This spectacular coffee table, with clean, minimalist lines, is an iconic representation of 1970s design, a decade marked by experimentation and the mixing of materials—in this case, burl wood and steel. The combination of these materials creates a fascinating contrast between the organic and the industrial. The polished steel reinforces the modernist influence of the decade, evoking a futuristic yet understated spirit.
He closely follows the designs created by Guy Lefèvre for Mason Jansen, known for their elegance, clean lines, geometric and symmetrical forms, and the fusion of modernism with classical elements. Working for Maison Jansen, Lefèvre contributed to the firm's reputation as a leader in luxury interior design.
"Bud wood" has nothing to do with the root of the tree, but rather with the deformations that the tissue can suffer along the entire stem. These irregularities that appear in the wood have been a source of interest in cabinetmaking and have become a highly sought-after part due to their undeniable value, as they are extremely dense and resistant woods. Furthermore, the whimsical shapes drawn on their surface gave rise to a great appreciation for this material, sparking great interest in movements such as Art Deco.
