Rare and well patinated Lower Paleolithic biface in flint from Charente, France, dating to roughly 400,000–300,000 years ago, with a length of 15.2 cm, width 8.4 cm, thickness 4.4 cm, and a glossy cuir colour patina.
Description from the seller
Authentic biface from the Lower Paleolithic, Acheulean, made of flint from France, measuring 15.2 cm.
Found in the Charente department (16) in France at Saint Même les Carrières.
Biface with a magnificent river patina in leather-like orange, very shiny.
Good shape, limande-shaped biface with a well-defined edge on one side and retouching directed towards it.
A very slight ancient surface flaw at the base clearly showing the difference between the original flint and the patina that has darkened over time from blue to a leather-like color.
Rare and sought-after piece for its polished, colorful patina and distinctive shape.
St Même
Found at Saint Même, a globally known site for the very beautiful gravel quarry bifaces that were found there.

Provenance: France, Charente.
It comes from an old private collection of a former quarry worker who worked in the Charente and Charente Maritime quarries during the first half of the 20th century.
