Kathryn Sillince - ‘Rainbow Banana Leaves Study’

This artwork will be shipped rolled in a tube. From the September 2023 collection of colourful abstracted flora inspired by my recent trips to tropical gardens around the UK and memories of my childhood in Szarvas, Hungary, and holidays abroad. This new series explores that incredible positive feeling of osmosis that happens when we as humans are immersed and spend time in nature. Inspired by a need for getting away after the lockdown, and new found love for painting tropical scenes, this more figurative addition to my abstract work started in early 2023 into utopian escapist scenes. This series has vistas that lie before you trapped in time, exploring how we hold favourite memories in our mind, each could be a rose-tinted memory. As a direct contrast to being trapped in confinement for two years as a collective with the world, this series explores freedom, nostalgia, gratitude and enjoying the simple things such as a holiday that maybe we took for granted before. I've been visiting tropical pavilions around the country for inspiration, as well as my drawing from memories of my childhood in Szarvas, Hungary and travels over the years. This nostalgic series invites you to heal in the wonders of looking up, and becoming lost in amongst the flora. FRAMING INFORMATION: This original painting has been signed and titled by me on the back of the canvas. This painting measures: 90cm x 90cm / 36" x 36" ARTIST BIO Kathryn studied Contemporary Fine Art at Sheffield Hallam, later launching an accessories label after London College of Fashion, for a frenetic 13 years.  Missing her first love of painting, she set up her home studio in Sheffield. Inspired by a new allotment and perennial love for exotic plants, a figurative addition to her abstract work started in 2023 with botanical forms and utopian escapist scenes.  Through rich, saturated hues, and unique impasto techniques, she explores how we remember joy.  Tropical pavilions are a constant source of inspiration, as are rich memories of her grandmothers garden in Szarvas, Hungary and recent trips to Sicily, Malta, Provence and Barcelona. Vintage risoprints, ethnic interiors, and flea market trawls all over the world feed into her deeply personal aesthetic.  Disco and synth music in the studio helps ignite a joyous feedback loop in her work. Kathryns work is held by private collectors around the world, exhibits nationally, and was longlisted for Jacksons Art Prize 2021. Kathryns corporate clients and commissions include: Art Projects Management Ltd. to create two abstracts to go in the Reception for a new Harley Street Clinic and NHS hospital in London.  Her work is licensed and are available on the Samsung Frame TV.
