Antique wooden newspaper rack/reading rack with rattan wickerwork – c. 1900–1925
Description
Antique freestanding newspaper rack / reading rack, made of solid wood with handwoven rattan panels on all sides. The piece features elegantly turned (barley twist) legs and rails and is finished with ball-shaped corner knobs, which gives it a refined and classic appearance.
The wickerwork is crafted by hand and original, not using modern webbing. The construction is sturdy and traditional, with visible mortise-and-tenon joints. The basket sits firmly and is both functional and highly attractive as a decorative piece.
Dating
Based on style, materials used, and construction, to date to around 1900–1925 (late 19th / early 20th century), in the spirit of Edwardian / Arts & Crafts influences.
