Mosaic - N.I.N.A. - 2025 - Mario Underground

This piece is an exciting tribute to the iconic 1980s and the universe of video games that defined an entire generation. The background, inspired by the famous level 1-2 of the undergrounds in Super Mario, reproduces the characteristic atmosphere of the underground world with its blue tones, bricks, platforms, and pixel-art aesthetic. It is printed on Hahnemühle Photo Pearl paper, a premium Fine Art paper characterized by an elegant pearl surface and extraordinary color rendering. The professional inks guaranteed for 200 years ensure vivid colors, sharp details, and exceptional durability over time.

The protagonist of the work – Mario – is crafted as a three-dimensional handcrafted mosaic, composed of small glass tiles measuring 1×1 cm, individually laid by hand. Each tile adds depth, stage presence, and a unique visual impact. Any minor irregularities are not defects but the distinctive mark of the manual craftsmanship that makes each piece unique.

Dedicated 3D support

The mosaic figure is mounted on an interlocking support that is fully designed and 3D printed, holding it suspended 1 cm from the background. This structural element creates a surprising sense of depth and produces elegant shadow plays when light hits the subject, further emphasizing the three-dimensional character of the work.

The background print is marginless, for a modern and minimalist look that integrates seamlessly into any environment.

On the back of the artwork, there is the artist's signature, an embossed stamp, and a numbered, signed paper certificate that attest to its authenticity and uniqueness.

Integrated lighting function

A hidden LED behind the figure of Mario emits a soft light that enhances the sense of suspension and depth without being intrusive. The lighting is activated by turning the switch on the LED, which has an internal battery that is easily replaceable.

Thanks to the N.I.N.A. app for iOS, it is possible to experience an even more engaging interaction: by scanning the artwork with the app, Mario will come to life, animated and enriching the visual experience with movement, interactivity, and a surprising effect that blends art and technology.
